St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are themed around the Irish and all things green, including clothing, decorations, and food. It is the perfect time to begin a new healthy tradition by adding green foods to your daily diet. Green foods are an excellent source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Eating a variety of them on a daily basis will improve your body’s health.
Here are five of the most nutrient-rich green foods:
1. Broccoli
Known for its anti-cancer properties, broccoli is one of the most health beneficial vegetables. It contains several vitamins, including A, C, E, and K, along a vital antioxidant called sulforaphane.
2. Spinach
Spinach is important for good eye health and may prevent heart disease. It contains high amounts of vitamin B9 (folate) and potassium.
3. Asparagus
Asparagus is a good source of vitamin K, which is important for bone health. It also a good source of vitamins A, B9 (folate), and C.
4. Lettuce
Improving liver health, aiding digestion, and reducing the risk of heart disease are just some of the benefits of lettuce. To maintain its nutritional quality, don’t expose the cut surfaces to the air for too long.
5. Green Apples
Green apples are a great source of fiber. Although they create a fullness feeling once consumed, they are quite low in calories, making them a good choice to eat in between meals.
